Have you ever been to the sandwich shop Subway, where one is asked to choose what vegetables and sauces they would like to have in the sandwich? I’ve always wondered how one makes this choice when they don’t know how each of those items taste. Perhaps this is true of academic and career pursuits as well. Given the myriad options available, how does one know what fits best for them? True of this analogy, my academic and professional choices have been very disparate, for want of a taste of different things.
I’ve had degrees in computer science engineering and in liberal arts and have had work experiences in sectors such as IT as a web developer, higher education as a marketing executive, and now in the government and development space as an ADF. Given that I come from a state (Tamil Nadu) that is culturally different from Jharkhand, ADF is giving me an unparalleled glimpse into not just the culture of this part of the country but also a bird’s eye view of how governments work at the district level. I hope the ADF takes me one step closer to choosing the right ingredients to make that perfect sandwich!
